Copyright and Licensing Policy

BMDJ is the European open access, peer-reviewed journal for medical and biomedical research data. BMDJ aims to foster data sharing and re-use in order to accelerate scientific discovery. In light of this, it is the assumption of BMDJ that scholars who publish their research data in the journal, wish their work to be available as freely and as widely as possible through the open access publishing channel. The publisher therefore uses a number of depositing, indexing, and archiving services as described here.

Authors who publish with BMDJ will retain all intellectual property rights, including moral rights in their work. Data papers/metadata accompanying the research data, including the abstract describing the research data, will be licenced to the public under 

 Creative Commons 4.0 Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike International license (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).

Biomedical Data Journal allows readers to read, download, copy, print, search, or link to the full texts of its articlesReaders will be able to share and adapt the material only as long as they give appropriate credit, use the material for non-commercial purposes only and only if the material is distributed under the same license as the original. You can find more information on Creative Commons at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/legalcode.

The same licence applies to research data published as supplementary material alongside the data paper.The BMDJ allows readers to read, download, copy, print, search, or link to the research data. Readers will be able to share and adapt the research data on the conditions that they give appropriate credit, use the data for non-commercial purposes only and distribute the data under the same license as the original.

It is the responsibility of the author of the data paper to verify that the original license pertaining to the research data is compatible with the subsequent issuance by the BMDJ of that data under the CC 4.0 BY-NC-SA license.

Users who want to use the material on BMDJ for commercial purposes should contact BMDJ directly using this contact form. Any commercial use of the author’s work requires the permission of the author and any aspects of the work which are the property of BMDJ, if any, requires permission from BMDJ.
